Introduction
Harpoon is a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage B2B software and enterprise technology startups & collaborates with prestigious partners such as Sequoia, Benchmark, and Andreessen Horowitz.
We have been working with them ever since they were founded in 2018 and have helped design pitch decks & investor materials for both them and their portfolio companies, which were used to raise hundreds of millions of dollars raised in VC funding.
Challenges
When Harpoon was gearing up to secure funding for their latest VC fund in 2021, they approached us to design a pitch deck that not only met the rigorous standards of investors but also showcased their growth trajectory. The challenge was to position Harpoon as a top-tier investor in a highly competitive landscape.
As they expanded, so did our role in supporting their portfolio companies. Each company in their portfolio was a pioneer with cutting-edge technology. This required us to create pitch decks that not only adhered to industry-specific nuances but also featured designs that resonated with their innovative spirit.
Solutions
To meet the challenge of positioning Harpoon as a top-tier investor in their latest fund deck, we decided to weave a narrative of growth throughout the design. Drawing inspiration from Harpoon's origin story—founded by an ex-Navy SEAL and Olympian—we crafted a visually compelling theme that conveyed impact and boldness. This theme ran as a powerful thread through the entire deck.
Solutions
Our approach for portfolio companies was equally meticulous. We commenced each project with in-depth research and the creation of mood boards. These mood boards served as the foundation for design stylescapes that explored various visual options. We presented these options to the portfolio companies, allowing them to select the one that resonated most with their unique story and industry.
After selecting a style, we implemented it consistently across the entire pitch deck. In cases where it was beneficial, we created custom assets such as illustrations, diagrams, and infographics to simplify complex information. We also crafted dynamic and bold layouts for slides and content that emphasized key highlights, ensuring that each portfolio company's pitch deck was not only visually appealing but also effective in conveying its value proposition to potential investors.
